  2. East Loddon P-12 College has a very supportive community led by the School Council and Parents Association who work hard to enhance the capacity of the College to offer opportunities for students. Check this week's newsletter for a full list of school councillors and the items for discussion from last night's meeting.

  3. ELP12 College is fantastic because it gives every child the opportunity to participate in a course or activity that will prepare them for anything they choose to do in their life.

Why do blogs always have the writing in this very old style when you are writing a comment, even though it comes out in a different font on the blog?

  12. Hi East Loddon community. We are currently travelling around parts of Aust and thought we'd keep you posted via this blogg. We left home a week ago yesterday and are travelling with a van. Our first destination was the Flinders Ranges in SA. We spent 3 nights there camping and bushwalking. We had kangaroos and emus wondering around quite close to where we were camped.

From here we headed north on the Oodnadatta Track through Maree to William Creek and spent a couple of days bush camping enroute to Coober Pedy. We camped at an Oasis one night! It is called Coward Springs - it is a natural spring in the middle of the desert. The water comes out of the ground and is warm, so it is nice to swim all year round. It bubbles out of the ground, part of the artisan basin which is 2 million years old. There were even palm trees and camels. We then travelled past Lake Eyre, which is now only about 30% full. It is such a huge expanse you cannot get a feel for its magnitude from the ground. Many people take flights over it from William Creek to get a better view. We didn't do that. We did call in at the William Creek Hotel though. It is an experience in itself. The population of William Creek is about 10 people. William Creek is famous for being located near Lake Eyre and the biggest cattle property in the world - Anna Station. It is located on the Oodnadatta Track, which is a dirt road, and in some parts quite rough. At times we were travelling at about 40km/hour. Most travellers carry 2 spare tyres as it is very easy to puncture a tyre in these conditions.

The Oodnadatta Track follows the route of the Old Ghan Railway (trainline from Adelaide to Darwin). It was originally laid on low-lying land and as a result constantly got washed away and travellers were often stranded for days. The old Ghan railway line was eventually closed in 1980 and replaced by the current Ghan railway line that runs from Adelaide through Coober Pedy up to Darwin.

Today we are exploring Coober Pedy. Opal mines are dotted all around this very stark dry landscape. Many houses are built underground to avoid the heat of summer.

From here we will head to Uluru, Kings Canyon and Alice Springs. The weather is very pleasant, short sleeves, most days. We'll keep you updated. Happy schooling. Prue, Lucy, Hamish, Penny and Andrew Wall.

  13. Wow Prue, your trip sounds amazing already. Your email had great detail and now we will be able to plot your route on the map we have set up in the classroom.
The class all say hi, and we are looking forward to your next post.
    Have fun!
